If the do-it-yourself option is viable for you, Walsall Council offer a free mattress disposal service at its waste facility located at Fryers Road, Bloxwich, WS2 7LZ.
Unlike a lot of other councils, Walsall council do not require pre-booking for your mattress disposal.
Simply turn up with your proof of residency between Monday – Sunday (excl. Thursday) 8am – 6pm (Thursday’s are extended evenings: 10am – 8pm).
The ability to turn up anytime does have its advantages with flexibility.
If you choose to avoid the challenge of transporting your bed or mattress, Walsall Council do provide a bulky waste collection service.

Registration is required on their website which takes just a few minutes.
Walsall Council do stipulate they can’t remove any items from above ground floor, please consider this if you find it difficult to place your bed or mattress on the ground floor.
Furthermore, it may be concerning for some residents to have their mattress left in view of neighbours as the council can’t collect from indoors.

What time is collection on the day?
We collect 9am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday. We’ll provide a 3hr time window the evening before the day of your collection as well as a 30min courtesy call on the day of collection
Do I have to be at home if my items are collected from outside?
If you’ve chosen to have your items collected from outside, there’s no need for you to be home.
As long as your items are 100% dry either inside the bags you purchased from us or your own, then we’ll just let you know when it’s done. No need to do anything else.
Can I leave my door key placed somewhere for the driver to use and open my door for access to get my bed?
All lockable access points must be opened by you.
Do I need to be at home if I’ve left my items indoors in an accessible area?
If placed in an area that is accessible and doesn’t need anyone there to provide access: such as a porch, accessible garage etc, there is no need for you to be there and no need for the driver to call you.
Can you dismantle my beds?
We can’t dismantle any items.
Can you take my items downstairs?
We provide an upstairs service that can be booked on the site for a small charge.
Will I get a bag for each of my bed parts?
For any “Mattress, Divan & Headboard” product:
We will send two bags for both parts of your Double or King divan (please place headboard in the mattress bag)
Can I drop my items to you?
We do not have a drop off facility for residential customers.
Can I pay by cash?
We can’t accept cash, all payments are online.
Do you take other items?
Yes, we can take other items away too, please email us a photo of the items help@pickmyoldbed.com and we’ll provide a competitive quote.
I have a bed that’s not listed in your categories
If you have a different type of bed, please book it in according to the size:
○ Single bunk beds (these will be booked in as two singles)
○ Triple sleeper bunk beds (these will be booked in as one double and one single)
○ Ottoman: please book in according to the size of your ottoman
○ Electric bed: if your electric bed is in two parts, these will be booked in as two singles
○ Any other odd sized bed or mattress can be booked in according to its nearest size
